Overview
The Taxonomy Usage Report gives DXE Managers a detailed view of how taxonomy terms are applied across your content, paired with bulk tag and untag controls that let you classify content without editing records one at a time. For each vocabulary, the report shows every term, how many content items carry it, and what share of that content type the term covers. From there you can drill into the tagged items, see which terms commonly appear together, and manage the keywords that surface tagged content in search.
To conserve site resources, the report reads from a daily taxonomy snapshot rather than polling live content. Bulk changes you make and save are written to your content in real time. If there is a discrepancy (for example, if you try to add a term that another user has already applied) the report skips that record because it is already up to date.

Accessing the Taxonomy Usage Report
- In the DXE Toolbar, click Reports.
- Click Taxonomy Usage.
- Select a content type.
The report opens with that content type loaded. Supported content types will expand over time, so the list you see may grow between releases.
The examples in this article use the Providers content type. If you select a different content type, the report behaves the same way and the labels reflect your selection.

Selecting a vocabulary and rebuilding the report
Use the dropdown at the top of the report to select the vocabulary you want to review. You can also change content types from this dropdown without leaving the report.
Next to the dropdown is the Rebuild button. Click Rebuild to force a fresh taxonomy snapshot and regenerate the report on demand. Use it when you need up-to-the-minute counts and percentages (for example, after a large tagging effort or a content import) rather than waiting for the next daily snapshot.

Reviewing vocabulary terms
Once you select a vocabulary, its terms populate the list on the left. For each term, the list displays:
- The term name
- Its total usage count
- The percentage of all items of the selected content type tagged with that term
Select a term to open a detailed breakdown on the right. The breakdown is organized into three tabs: the content type tab, Co-occurrences, and Related Keywords.

Viewing tagged content
The first tab is named for the content type you selected. It lists every item tagged with the selected term, along with some details like organizational affiliation and data source.
Click any item in the list to slide open a detail view showing all tags assigned to it across every vocabulary. You may also see additional edit options here for the clicked content. For example, providers will show an Edit profile button that goes directly to the selected provider's edit screen.

Reviewing co-occurrences
The Co-occurrences tab shows which other terms are applied to the same content as the term you selected, grouped by vocabulary. For each co-occurring term, the report displays:
- Count: How many items carry both the selected term and the co-occurring term. For example, 11 providers might be tagged with Internal Medicine as a Primary Specialty and General Medicine as a Condition.
- Coverage percentage: The share of items tagged with the selected term that this overlap represents.
Click any co-occurring term to open a breakdown of the content tagged with both terms. Use the toggle to switch between Tagged with both and Not yet tagged, which lists the items carrying the selected term but not the co-occurring term.
From either view, click an item name to open its detail panel, or use the checkboxes to select multiple items for bulk actions.

Bulk tagging and untagging
To add a term to multiple items at once:
- Open the Co-occurrences tab and click a co-occurring term.
- Switch the view to Not yet tagged.
- Select the checkboxes for the items you want to tag.
- Click Add term.
To remove a term from multiple items at once:
- Switch the view to Tagged with both.
- Select the checkboxes for the items you want to update.
- Remove the term from the selected items.
The changes are written to your content immediately. Any record that already matches the change you're making is skipped.
Managing related keywords
The Related Keywords tab lists the search terms that return content tagged with the selected term — for example, the searches that surface providers tagged with Internal Medicine as a Primary Specialty.
For long lists, type a partial phrase into the search box to filter the results as you type.
To change which keywords are associated with a term:
- At the bottom of the list, click Edit keywords for this term to open the management panel.
- To add a keyword, type it into the input box at the top and press Enter.
- To remove a keyword, click the X next to it.
- Click Save Changes at the bottom of the panel.

Things to know
- Taxonomy tags, counts, and percentages reflect the most recent snapshot, not live content. Click Rebuild for current data.
- Bulk tag and untag actions write to your content as soon as you save them.
- Since tagging or untagging are the only bulk actions, any record discrepancies in the snapshot are skipped because it means the live record already has the correct setting.
- More content types will be supported in future releases.
